The underlying theme of this activity is one of a "burning platform" (i.e. changing customer expectations, competitive pressures, decreasing margins, etc.). Team members must work together, using scarce resources, efficient planning and limited time to save a team member and relocate their entire team.

Sub-groups are created as needed depending on the group size. Each sub-group of 20 to 100 works with one physical set-up. Each sub-group is divided into teams of 4 to 8 people. The teams are placed around a circle that is approximately 80 feet in diameter. One member of each team is relocated to an area in the middle of the circle designated as the "burning platform." The ultimate objective is to get all team members from one side of the ring to the other, rescuing their stranded team mate from the "burning platform" in the process. This must be accomplished using limited resources, avoiding obstacles and without touching the area within the ring. The teams have to deal with potential "collisions" with other teams as they implement their plan. The activity includes a fifteen minute period to strategize, an implementation period and debriefs by sub-groups and the total group. This activity requires a large amount of space (large ballroom or outdoors).
