Making Contact Total Time 1 ˝ to 3 hours Themes: Customer relations, strategy, roles, and sub-team interdependencies This activity creates an environment where success is a function of how well the team works together to plan and implement a strategy. Management of interdependencies between teams is crucial to success. Participants are told that they have identified a lucrative opportunity to obtain the latest competitive information on your biggest rival. However, to do this, they must build three towers to support a new wireless technology to access the information source. Multiple roles are assigned within each team. The teams are also presented with different operating strategies. Roles for purchasing project management, construction and transmission engineering are assigned and teams are given information on the goal, roles, process flow, budget, purchasing methods and construction requirements. Participants are instructed on organizing and constructing the ‘Wireless’ communication towers with compatible characteristics to permit line-of-site communications. Success is achieved when all towers are assembled and aligned to meet specifications. The activity is followed by a debrief to explore the effectiveness of strategies, collaboration and implementation methods. |
