Meeting Commitments (PingPong)

Total Time 1 ½ to 2 Hours

Themes: Collaboration, sharing of best practices, customer support, change, effective communication, and planning.

This activity requires multiple sub-groups to establish "performance goals" or "market share commitments" for the entire organization based on their analysis of the challenge. After making a commitment the teams have to implement creative methods and successfully manage inter-team activities.

The Total Group of participants is divided into Sub-Groups. Then each sub group is divided into several Teams and a Leadership Team. The small groups are challenged with an activity that requires them to place colored ping pong balls into vertical tubing located within a restricted area ("competitive arena") using limited resources. The colored balls ("customers") represent different levels of risk and revenue potential. Dropping a "customer" in the "competitive marketplace" will have varying consequences depending on the color of the ball. The activity is timed and is divided into four periods (analysis, goal setting, implementation and debrief). Participants must plan a strategy, decide what goal they will achieve, and work together to determine how to quickly and accurately meet commitments. After the small group debrief period is completed, all participants come back together again to share key learning points.
