Strategic Planning
A large portion of the planning time is typically spent in dialog about:
We have found that having a common understanding of these three areas is key to reaching a consensus regarding what the organization should look like in the future. We believe that while a strategic plan should have a long term focus, "The ink never dries." Changes in the environment (customers, suppliers, competition . . .), employee feedback and new opportunities drive the need to revise the plan periodically. Leaders and consultants continually debate if strategic planning should be done solely by a leadership team or through a participatory process involving a high percent of members of the organization. Our viewpoint is that "it depends". What may be right for one organization my be a mistake for another but should never be done in a vacuum. In either case we strongly encourage that the process not be conducted in a vacuum. Input from employees, customers and suppliers is critical components as input throughout the process. |
