The Maze (Electronic Maze) Total Time 1 ˝ to 2 hours Themes: Change, performance improvement, communications, planning, and inter-group sharing. This activity can be set up to simulate paradigms, organizational change and performance improvement challenges. Participants must solve a complex problem in a timely manner while working under difficult conditions. The Electric Maze® is an electronically programmable activity that challenges teams to find a successful path without triggering an alarm. The maze is a 6' x 9' carpet with a programmable series of squares resembling a checkerboard. Participants navigate their way through the maze by moving from square to square in an attempt to find the correct pre-programmed pathway. The total group of participants is divided into sub-groups of 15 to 20 people each. Each sub-group is provide with a maze and set of rules that must be followed during the activity. The rules govern participant movement on the maze, communications between participants and consequences for errors in performance. A typical activity consists of a short introduction followed by a five minute planning period and a 30 to 40 minute implementation period. After the implementation period each sub-group discusses their performance and identifies key learning points. All sub-groups reassemble to share learning points at the end of the activity period. |
